DEFINING DISABILITY SERIES (PART 1)
My esteemed readers, the above subject is born out of my passion and dedication to contribute my quota to make equality, inclusivity and parity embraced at all levels.
Defining Disability Series will give us broad enlightenment on how to intermingle towards discrimination free and frruitful coexistence.
At many occasions I have put forward a question; WHAT IS DISABILITY TO YOU, and I usually get the expected misconstrued answer which is; disability is when you have some kind of deformities on your physique. That is the general and natural view of disability which is a complete misconception, this misconception have made the word, its definition and a set of people sufferered derogatorily.
Wherever and whenever disabled, disability, disabilities and the likes are mentioned, sense of pity and derogation towards a set of special creatures usually showcased due to ignorance of what disability really entails to the extent that, human beings God created without categorization are being prejudicially categorized with human induced sense and words such as normal and disabled, by the word disabled, it simply means the special creatures of God are abnormal.
In real verifiable sense, the definition of DISABILITY is INABILITY to perform a specific task so, this simply means, no matter your status, whether you are tagged normal or abled, disabled or person with disability, everyone has disability in different forms.
So, disability is not all about the physical deformity, it's intellectually induced but if it's about addressing a group of people with physical defamation then it should be People with physical Disabilities without derogation.
When addressing a cluster of the group or a person, it's more dignifying to identify the nature such as Deaf, Blind, cripple, albino and etc and address properly and not with disability and derogatory attitude.
Am proudly a Deaf individual and it will be welcoming to identify as does and not with disability or disabled, the word Deaf has no derogatory undertone, just an adjective, signifying that I can't hear just as in Blind signifying he/she can't see, cripple signifying he/she can't walk and etc.
From onset, no one prayed or wished to be Deaf, Blind, Crippled etc, it's naturally God's creative arts and the Bible confirmed that all creatures of God are beautiful, we have to maintain dignity by addressing everyone without any derogatory attitude attached. We are all creatures of one God.
He/She is Deaf and not Disabled
He/She is Blind and not Disabled
He/She is Crippled and not Disabled
The term, People with physical Disabilities addressed all.
Everyone, with or without physical disabilities has limitied abilities hence, we should embrace intermingling responsibly and without prejudice for fruitful cohabitation.
