Understanding Deaf and Deafness: See reason why the Deaf don't listen to your motivation

The Deaf with unguarded sense of freedom doesn't portrait Deafness, it's a build up attitude caused by lackadaisical manner of mentoring towards them.

I have had series of complaints from parents of the Deaf stating that, their Deaf Children/Wards are extremely stubborn.

After thorough evaluation, this issue emanates from lackadaisical manner of mentoring towards them. 70% of the prelingually Deaf suffers from lackadaisical manner of upbringing. They didn't enjoy the day to day recommended influence from parenting.

We need to stop seeing the Deaf as liabilities.

These parents thinks providing basic amenities for their Deaf Children/Wards with a simple gesture by drawing the ears to say 'Be a Good Child' is enough.

Though it happens to children without deafness too but it's incomparable to Deaf children who can't hear anything on the streets, there are training children without deafness could get on the streets by mere hearing.

These Deaf Children grew up with a build up of, sense of total freedom termed stubbornness. They will hardly listen to motivation.

There's need to build up effective communication with your Deaf Child/Ward.

As you are ready to cater for his/her needs, same way, be ready to admit he/she needs your attention, be ready to cope with his/her challenges, be ready to ensure he/she understands what's necessary to be understood.

I will recommend you withdraw your Deaf Child/Ward from the hostel accommodation if possible. This is to avoid story that touch when he/she grew up.

With the present situation in this country, how many teachers and hostel masters/mistresses are ready to ensure your Deaf Child/Ward have the right attitude?

For your Deaf Child/Ward to have the right attitude, it's in your hands and it must be under your roof.

To the parents battling with their grown up Deaf Child/Ward lackadaisical attitude, there's a solution...

Stubbornness among the Deaf is always rigid because they are hearing nothing so they are seeing life as nothing. At this stage, they don't regret actions, If life treats them well, good, if not, same is good, they see no reason to regret.

At this stage, Parents, you will have to control your temper because, they would have become too sensitive to manners of approaches, remember, the eyes is their ears, friendly facial expression makes them feel loved, avoid every form of harshness towards them.

Develop flexible COMMUNICATION to INSPIRE, they value gossips, gossip about the unreasonable, along the line gradually and tactically discuss and take steps towards the profitable with utmost flexibility, and believe me, your Deaf Child/Ward will become what you want him/her to become.

  1. Good as the article is, it lacks one major contribution to hate of listening to motivation from hearing people even parents. That contribution is knowledge of sign language. If parents can not communication with their deaf children in sign language, then there is lack of understanding on the children and parents. Sign language is a bridge that connect understanding to happened in communication. Once there is understanding, there is love and care.
Lack understanding the deaf children by mean of sign language is the cause/evolution stubbornness in deaf children.
Some parents because of guilty for bring deaf children and in trying to make life better for them, pampering their deaf children to the extend, the children develop stubbornness to motivation. I have witness all this in my life career as a special educator.
Lastly, government share part of this stubbornness of the deaf through lack of effective policy for the betterment of the deaf as members of the society.
