AWARENESS DAY FOR USHER SYNDROME

Usher Syndrome is a relatively rare genetic disorder caused by a mutation in any one of at least 10 genes resulting in a combination of hearing loss and visual impairment, and is a leading cause of combined deafness and blindness.

Research revealed that more than 400,000 people are affected by this genetic disorder worldwide, of which 70,000 are in Nigeria.

Presently, Usher Syndrome is incurable and it negatively impacts three major senses in the body; the Vision, hearing and balance.

Due to limited public awareness, the affected suffers depression, anxiety, isolation and loss of independence.

Do not let this brief enlightenment lead you to a pity party, it’s really not about taking pity, it’s all about grooming and inclusion.

Everyone is invited!!!
