MAMAYE- EVIDENCE FOR ACTION INITIATIVE ON A RESCUE MISSION TO SAVE THE NIGERIA HEALTH SECTOR

MAMAYE- EVIDENCE FOR ACTION, an organization focused in using evidence based advocacy to drive positive outcomes for mothers and newborns in collaboration with other health initiatives based on evidences launched a rescue mission to save the Nigeria health sector.

One of the evidences MAMAYE- EVIDENCE FOR ACTION has is the failed proper implementation of budgetary allocation to the health sector.

Nigeria still faces worse form of healthcare challenges especially for mothers and their newborns such as pregnancy-related injuries, infections, diseases, disabilities and preventable adverse newborn health outcomes due to inadequate government’s commitment in delivering quality healthcare services that work for all while eliminating those challenges.

Resources are not always made available for key critical health interventions. Tanzanian is the only country in the world that achieved the “Abuja Declaration” of 15% allocation to the health sector, Nigeria is still lagging behind even the little being approved for the health sector are hardly released on time. The fact that budget is approved doesn’t guarantee that’s what will be released. Nigeria health sector is underfunded which thereby reducing chances of women and children benefiting from what were allocated.

Hence, MAMAYE- EVIDENCE FOR ACTION in collaboration with other health initiatives and stakeholders today, 17th May, 2018 launched #FundNaijaHealth Campaign in Lagos, Nigeria, a Health Budget Performance Campaign for prompt release of funds allocated to the sector and to address the lack of transparency in budgetary processes. Nigerian Governments needs to fulfill the “Abuja Declaration” of 15% allocation to the health sector.

Present at the event were medical experts, stakeholders and Lagos State Government who presented challenges and resolutions. The only way to make sure the budget allocations are well utilized is by proper advocacy.  Continuous advocacy should be embraced.

Our government has huge interest in economic affairs compare to health sector, there’s need for diversification as health is not just about health, it’s about life.

A clarion call on all stakeholders at every sector to collaborate with MAMAYE- EVIDENCE FOR ACTION to promote the advocacy and diversification towards saving lives and making our government release budgetary allocation to the health sector as deemed fit.

Continued advocacy towards diversification is key!

"Health is not just about health, it’s about life".
