RE: DEAF AND THEIR MANAGERS

RE: DEAF AND THEIR MANAGERS

As every individual is entitled to his/her opinion, I hereby appreciate everyone who commented on the write-up on various social media.

Am to state that, nothing can be generalized, we are of different species so therefore, we have sign language interpreters who I tagged ‘legalized interpreters’, who guarded their dignity responsibly.

As Nigeria is still an abode of where anything goes which can’t be compared to developed countries where sign language interpreters aren’t lurking but stationed and being binned by rules.

From the write up, why is it that, it’s only the section of offering free service is being tackled, is that the only point in the write up? Hmmmmm. Naija mentality.

Anyway, I will enlighten further, accordingly.
Have been reading, sign language interpretation is a profession, nothing is free in freetown, few number of the Deaf also join in the bla bla bla, it’s understandable, some of the Deaf have been hypnotized, the exploitation has been the norm, they couldn’t help it.

Sign language interpretation is a profession, agreed but, when you aren’t legalized, you shouldn’t beat your chest to say it’s your profession.

Where are your credentials? What’s written on top of your certificate? From which institution?
How many of our Naija Sign Language Interpreters can boldly state that, they learnt the sign language without getting free helping hands from the Deaf?

Just imagine, a set of people we taught our language free of charge now charge to help us bridge communication gap. IMAGINE!

Why should an interpreter agree to go alone to a far location to interpret, why not recommend one of your colleagues at the location or advice that someone close by should be invited?
For example, you are their choice, good, you should be in the vehicle conveying the groom and his people to and from the wedding and not going on your own, to save cost of transportation.

Am not against sign language interpreters profit making but it should be made responsibly. It is not at every occasion you should expect to be paid. You shouldn’t be expectant of payment when interpreting at Church, Deaf parties such as wedding, birthday etc, Joint Association of People with Disabilities (JONAPWD) meetings and the likes. Asking to be paid at Church is really surprising when you are also a member/Christian.

Imagine a situation where we couldn’t invite our regular interpreter to our monthly JONAPWD meeting simply because we don’t have money in the association’s coffer to pay the hell bent on payment interpreter.

For programs, interpreters are to engage the organizers via the Deaf; the organizers are to be responsible for the payment.

Only the greedy Deaf will not compensate an interpreter who followed them to where fund was disbursed. I will write something on this soon, to be titled, “SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETERS AREN’T FIREWOODS, APPRECIATE THEM RESPONSIBLY”.

The point here is, offer selfless service, specifically, let your pockets be greased naturally except if stationed where you will be paid salary.

How many of our naija sign language interpreters are certified? That is why I advised, our interpreters should focus on getting employed at special schools if they possesses the requirements or to be stationed at establishments on recommendations by the Deaf if sign language interpretation service is the only thing you want to focus upon. You can get employed on another field while sign language interpretation service is your extra-activity.
Lurking around the Deaf should be discouraged, don’t turn us to your channel of blessing immorally.

Am not sending our interpreters out of business, do not see me as your enemy, your flexibility is what we craved for.

By God’s Grace, I pray for fund, a program will be organized in respect of the Deaf and Their Managers, Ogun State will host the Nation. There, we shall have lectures and debates towards setting of record straight.

This year, abnormalities lurking around the Deaf must be eradicated.

NB: Let’s highlight other points in the write-up and address responsibly. http://fffadvocacybase.blogspot.com.ng/2017/08/deaf-and-their-managers.html

The love that exists between the Deaf and Their Managers won’t diminish by God’s Grace.
